97 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Drawing upon more than 30 years of experience in academia and library science, Denise Lynne Montgomery excelled as an associate professor of library science and head of interlibrary loans at Valdosta State University in Georgia from 1984 until her retirement in 2018. During her tenure at Valdosta State University, Ms. Montgomery was instrumental in getting a document delivery system established on campus, which made the process of returning materials and library books more manageable and efficient. Earlier in her career, she served in the reader’s services library at St. Leo College for one year prior to transferring to Valdosta State University. Equipped with a Bachelor of Arts from Sweet Briar College in 1975 and a Master of Science in library science from Florida State University in 1981, Ms. Montgomery has always been an avid reader. Upon taking an aptitude test, she realized that she would excel in library science, and thus, commenced her career in the field. Since that time, she has maintained membership with the American Library Association and the Georgia Library Association, for whom she has served on several committees. To share her breadth of knowledge with the public, Ms. Montgomery has contributed a plethora of articles to professional journals, such as Library Trends. She also contributed to the book “Royal Visits and War Brides to Britain and the Americas: Culture, Politics and History” in 2005, as well as served as the editor of “Ottemiller’s Index to Plays in Collections,” which was included in the Choice Reviews’ Outstanding Academic Titles list in 2012. She further flourished as a senior research editor of the Yale Dictionary of Quotations in 2006. Post-retirement, Ms. Montgomery has lent her considerable expertise to the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library at Stanton University, in which she has updated the library, including adding e-books of old and rare books to the library’s catalog. Looking ahead, she intends to continue enjoying her retirement.
