Concurrently, Ms. Freese has excelled as an associate professor of library services since 1990. Earlier, Ms. Freese served the Swirbul Library at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, in several capacities, beginning in 1972 as an assistant librarian. She soon escalated through the ranks to social work librarian, acquisitions librarian, biographical searcher, reserve librarian and circulation assistant until departing in 1983. Additionally, she was an elementary school teacher between 1967 and 1971. Ms. Freese is proud of establishing the library at the Wayside Home and School for Troubled Girls in 1993. Remaining in her role until 2003, she has also enjoyed setting up scholarships for high school students to help them attend college through the Woman’s Advance Club, for whom she has served as vice president since 2019. Noting that her avocational activities have molded her into a well-rounded individual, she also contributed to the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church as a Sunday school, librarian and lector. Ms. Freese was named Woman of the Year by Business and Professional Women of Nassau County in 1994 and has received the Twentieth Century Award for Achievement and International AwardforMerit fromthe InternationalBiographical Centre. In 1993, she also earned a Distinguished Service Award from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Ms. Freese has been highlighted in Who’s Who in America, and was named a Worldwide Humanitarian, Lifetime Achiever, Top Professional and Professional Woman by Marquis Who’s Who. Additionally, she was interviewed by Star Jones, listed in The Wall Street Journal and Sky Magazine, and featured on the Thomson Reuters billboard in Times Square. She holds a BA and an MA in elementary education from Hofstra University and an MLS from LIU Post. Drawing upon more than five decades of expertise in academia, Melanie L. Freese has made strides in improving the wellbeing of students across Long Island, New York. Joining Hofstra University in 1984, she first served as a senior catalog librarian for 15 years before being promoted to assistant dean and chairwoman of technical services of HofMELANIE L.
