47 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT Once upon a time, in 1969, before it was stylish for a young wife and mother to work outside the home, and while America was trying to land on the Moon, Joan Marsh was building the foundation for her company, Marsh Film Enterprises, Inc. It was not by calculation or inordinate ambition, but by the natural reflection of her family’s growth. She was a pioneer in elementary drug education, producing the filmstrip “Drugs: Friend or Foe?” and setting the standard for thoughtful education of young children. Mrs. Marsh and her husband, Alan Marsh, established Marsh Film Enterprises, Inc., as a filmstrip production and mail order marketing company, later adding video films, computer software and a 25-volume series of illustrated children’s character education books, including stars Papa Piccolo and Clarissa. She published health-based programs, focusing on contemporary topics in drug education, puberty education, personal safety, nutrition and social skills for students with developmental disabilities. Mrs. Marsh is also the owner and president of JOAN’S eBOOKS LLC, a company she founded and has led since 2011. It provides the internet portal for her best works in self-publishing. Her life’s work has been the authoring and publishing of character education, health and guidance books, and programs for elementary children, as well as adult memoir and biography. She recently released “Saying Hello to Joan Didion,” “Saying Good Bye to Nora Ephron,” “Meeting Clara Barton” and “Isabella Stewart Gardner and Her Museum.” Additionally, she authored scholarly papers for the ’81 Club and historical nonfiction books about women’s issues, which are housed in the Missouri Valley Room at the Kansas City Public Library. An achievement has been the opportunity to give her children’s e-books away at no cost through the programs that Amazon provides for its authors. It was a thrill to build a newmailing list and offer these e-books when the U.S. was falling into the pandemic, schools were shutting down and parents were searching for quality reading experiences for their children. Parallel with her business career, Mrs. Marsh has also sustained a volunteer life, receiving the 1999 Community Service Award from the Junior League of Kansas City.
