81 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Possessing dual careers in both nursing and education, Dr. Mary Roades de Meneses commenced her studies at DePaul University, where she earned a BS in nursing in 1970, MA in education in 1973 and MS in nursing in 1975. Prior, she served several hospitals as an emergency room nurse, intensive care nurse, evening nurse supervisor, head nurse and medical surgical nurse between 1960 and 1969. Shortly thereafter, she transitioned into an academic role as an instructor of medical surgical nursing at the Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago prior to becoming an instructor turned associate professor of nursing at DePaul University in 1974, maintaining her associate professorship until 1981. Dr. de Meneses joined Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville in 1982, where she first served as an associate professor before turning full professor in 1989. Remaining in this position until retiring in 2002, she also served the university as coordinator of graduate programs, assistant project director of Project GAIN, assistant project director of nurse anesthesia, acting associate dean of academy affairs and associate dean for educational services. She earned an EdD from Northern Illinois University in 1982. Dr. de Meneses was a consultant for local and regional law firms, VA hospitals and the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis. She has contributed chapters to books and articles to professional journals and served as co-author of texts and reviewer for the Midwest Nursing Research Society. She has been an item writer for the C.V. Mosby Company since 1986. Earning grants from the Department of Health and Human Services, Higher Education Collegiate Association and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Dr. de Meneses served on the obstetrical task force for the Southern Illinois University Medical Association and contributed to the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses as chapter treasurer, board director and member of several committees. She was chair of the research committee of the Mid-American Regional Nursing Diagnosis Special Interest Group.
