Ellig retired in 1996 after serving Pfizer, Inc., since the inception of his career. Hired by Pfizer in 1960, he escalated to the rank of manager of compensation and personnel research in 1968 and was promoted to corporate director of compensation and benefits in 1970. For the following five years, Mr. Ellig served as vice president of compensation and benefits before becoming the vice president of employee relations in 1983. From 1985 until his retirement, he excelled as vice president of personnel. Mr. Ellig holds a BBA and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, obtained in 1959 and 1960, respectively. Post-retirement, he was an advisory panel member of Career Central from 2001 to 2003 and a consultant for Organization of Resources Counselors, Inc., from 1996 to 2001. Additionally, he has authored numerous books since 1978, including “American History Impact on Employee Pay and Benefits” in 2015. Earlier, he authored “The Evolution of Employee Pay in the United States” in 2017, as well as coauthored such works as “The Future of Human Resource Management” in 2005. He authored the first three editions of “The Complete Guide to Executive Compensation.” The fourth edition is due early 2022. Mr. Ellig has contributed over 100 articles to professional journals and over 400 conference, along with radio and television outlets. Mr. Ellig established the Bruce R. Ellig Scholarship at the University of Wisconsin, who bestowed upon him the Distinguished Business Alumnus Award in 2007. He also established the Bruce R. Ellig Distinguished Chair in Pay and Organizational Effectiveness and the Ellig Professorship in Management. Other accolades have included the 1999 Keystone Award from the American Compensation Association and the 1999 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Human Resource Management. He was named Person of the Year by the University of Wisconsin Alumni Club of New York and Human Resources Executive of the Year by Human Resources Executive Magazine, both in 1995.
