110 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Growing up in a well-rounded educational environment, KathleenM. Skaro Sullivan was influenced by her parents, who taught her the value of education and what it means to be genuinely successful in life. Learning in myriad areas, including music, administration, communication, public speaking and cultural identities, Ms. Sullivan attended Mantako State University, where she received three BS degrees in English, Spanish and French in 1981, 1983 and 1990, respectively. She later returned to her alma mater, earning an MS in English in 2000. Delving into education in 1981, Ms. Sullivan served as a teacher at the New Ulm School District for two years before becoming a teacher and coach at the Gibbon School District from 1984 to 1985. Remaining in the same capacity for the remainder of her career, she subsequently served Le Seuer School District, Sebeka School District, Dassel-Cokato School District, Detroit Lakes School District, Blue Earth Area High School and Lacqui Parle Valley High School between 1985 and 2002. She retired from education in 2012 after serving a decade at Waubun Public Schools. Civically engaged as well, Ms. Sullivan has dedicated much of her time to charitable endeavors related to health care, such as being an interventionist for pregnant students, students with anorexia and alcohol poisoning, migrant families, homeless students, and students with autism. She has also worked with students regarding suicide prevention, as well as with Asian and Spanish students learning English. Likewise, she taught Sunday school for 20 years. Ms. Sullivan directed or co-directed several plays, such as “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Love Letters,” “Wind in the Willows,” “The Wizard of Oz,” Crimes of the Heart,” “Disney’s High School Musical,” “The Pirates of Penzance” and several student-written original plays and musicals. She has maintained membership with the Minnesota Council of Teaching Foreign Languages and the Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is especially proud of writing grants, which brought thousands of dollars into her school districts that helped underserved students.
