To prepare for his career, Mr. Solidum pursued a formal education at the University of Hawaii, where he completed coursework from 1949 to 1950. From there, he relocated to the University of Oregon and earned a Bachelor of Arts in advertising in 1953. After spending several years in the finance and insurance field, he became a chartered life underwriter through the American College of Life Underwriters in 1975. As a testament to his success, Mr. Solidum received aMan of the Year Award from the Filipino Chamber of Commerce in 1965, a Certificate of Merit from the Aloha United Way in 1971, an Honor Award from Wisdom Magazine in 1974 and an Outstanding Alumnus Honor Medal from Saint Louis High School in 1976. Most recently, he earned the Island Treasure Award from the Catholic Church of Hawaii in 2003. A pronounced finance and insurance executive of more than 60 years, James Solidum, CLU, currently excels as the proprietor of J. Solidum & Associate in Honolulu, establishing his company in 1964. He has also served as the president of the Financial Development Institute since 1967. Spending much of his career committed to the Grand Pacific Life Insurance Company, Mr. Solidum joined the company in 1957 as a field agent. Over the course of several decades, he advanced to home office assistant, supervisor, assistant vice president and vice president prior to retiring from the company in 2004. Earlier in his career, Mr. Solidum served the Hawaii Sugar Planters Association as a publications editor and the Federal Civil Service as a master planning technician. Likewise, he was an editor of the Fil-American Tribune. He commenced his career in 1953 as a promotional salesman for the Tongg Publishing Company. In his early years, Mr. Solidumwas a contributing writer of several magazines, such as Paradise of Pacific Magazine and the Hawaii Agricultural Magazine.
