336 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL SERVICES AND NONPROFIT Growing up in an environment where she was taught to give back to her community, Edythe M. Rickard aspired to become a nurse. After graduating with a registered nursing certification from Washington County Hospital in 1952, she served as a registered nurse for a resounding 46 years until retiring from nursing in 1998. During the last 28 years of her career, she served Washington County Hospital in Maryland as a registered nurse. Post-retirement, Ms. Rickard continues to contribute to her community through the Consumer Justice Organization, where she has served as president since 1975. Alongside these positions, Ms. Rickard also excelled as a member and Chesapeake and Potomac consultant for Telephony Advisor Panel in Baltimore and a member of the Governor’s Consumer Council from 1983 to 1986. Additionally, she was with the Dispute Settlement Board in the Baltimore and Washington County areas in 1994, a member of the Democratic Central Committee in Hagerstown, Maryland, from 1987 to 2000, and an advisory board member of the Hagerstown United Methodist Church, a position she has held since 1995. Previously, she was president of the Finance Committee Scholarship Council on Ministries and a parish nurse for her local church. In recognition of her success, Ms. Rickard was honored for Life of Leadership Recognition by Women at the Table in 2018. She has maintained affiliation with United Democrats, the Nurses Alumni Association and the Women’s Commission, who elected her a fellow of the organization. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is especially proud of becoming a registered nurse, which inspired her younger sister to enter the nursing field as well. The proud mother of four children – James, Marry Ann, John and Susan – Ms. Rickard also has five grandchildren. She considers raising her children to be the most rewarding part of her life. Looking forward, she intends to continue serving the Consumer Justice Organization and giving back to her community. EDYTHE M.
