96 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Well regarded for her extensive tenure at the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) for more than 30 years, Dr. C. Neill McLeod is notable as North Carolina’s first woman community college president, first woman director of student activities and first woman dean of continuing education. In addition, Dr. McLeod is recognized as the first woman vice president of instruction and student development, as well as the first woman associate executive president of the NCCCS office. Retiring in 2005 as the senior vice president of Wake Technical Community College, she has maintained membership with the Girl Scouts of the United States of America post-retirement, where she initially began in 1974. Pursuing a prolific education in her early years, Dr. McLeod obtained a BA in sociology from the University of North Carolina Greensboro (formerly known as the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina) in 1957 and an MS in adult and community college education from the North Carolina State College of Education in 1972. Two years later, she received from the aforementioned institution an EdD in community college leadership. Dr. McLeod’s work with the Girl Scouts solidified her decision to pursue vocational endeavors in continuing education. Noting that the NCCCS is designed for adults with continuing education aspirations, particularly to obtain marketable skills, she is a service-oriented professional who has always derived great pleasure from helping others succeed in their respective industries. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is especially proud of becoming the first woman community college president in North Carolina while serving Martin Community College. As a testament to her success, Dr. McLeod received a Legacy Award in 2018, and most recently, a Distinguished Alumnus Award from North Carolina State University in November 2020. She attributes her success to her diligent work ethic. Looking toward the future, she intends to continue enjoying her well-deserved retirement. DR. C.
