86 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Hailing from an educational background with parents who were both involved in academia, Harriet E. Foley pursued a formal education at the College of Mount St. Joseph, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in education in 1957. Upon graduating with her bachelor’s degree, she joined Carlisle Public Schools in Ohio, where she first served as an elementary school teacher of fifth grade students between 1957 and 1961. While teaching, Ms. Foley attended the University of Kentucky, receiving a Master of Science in library science in 1961. She subsequently served the Carlisle Public Schools as a school librarian from 1961 until her retirement in 1982. Concurrent to her librarianship, she was also a secondary school teacher of French from 1961 to 1963. Ms. Foley is a certified teacher of elementary education in the State of Ohio. Alongside her primary endeavors, she has served as the secretary of the Conover Health Center since 2017, where she was a past trustee. Additionally, she was a longtime trustee and secretary of the Carlisle Federal Credit Union from 1962 to 2008 and maintained membership with various committees for the Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community from 1990 to 1998. A local researcher with an interest in genealogy, Ms. Foley has authored, co-authored and edited a number of books, most recently including “Franklin in the Great Miami Valley,” which she edited in 1982 and 2004. In 1994, she co-authored “Foleys from County Clare, Ireland” alongside her husband, which she cites as a highlight of her career. She has often gifted her 300-page book to her nieces and nephews as wedding presents. Ms. Foley was notably inducted into the Franklin High School Hall of Fame in 2003 and was named Citizen of the Year by Franklin, Ohio, in 2007. She has maintained affiliation with the Daughters of the American Revolution and Warren County Genealogical Society, for whom she has served as treasurer since 1988 and 1994, respectively. Additionally, she is a former treasurer, newsletter editor and lifetime member of the Franklin Area Historical Society, a lifetime member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the American Library Association.
