R etired voice educator Nella S. Girolo’s desire to pursue a career in music was honed through her familial upbringing. Her father played the clarinet and was a member of his family orchestra who played in silent movies. Her uncle toured the country on the Big Band Circuit and played with Charlie Barnet. At the age of four, she started playing piano and the clarinet in high school, moving on to voice in college. She toured the country as a singer and participated in concerts, operas and musicals. Aside from her musical career, she authored several books, including “Uncommon Letters from A Common Man,” “Grandma’s Recipe Album,” “Plain and Fancy” and “The Wonderful World of Rosie Posie.” Her biggest achievement was performing seven concerts for Aaron Copland after working on the music at his home.
