478 MILLENNIUM W ith over 50 years in her field, Carolyn H. Livingston has been able to share her knowledge and passion for music with adolescents. Dr. Livingston studied at the University of Maryland and received a Bachelor of Arts from Tennessee Technological University, as well as a Master of Education and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida. She began her career as a teacher of music for a private practice in Bowie, Md., from 1960 to 1968. Dr. Livingston has also been a music specialist, director of choirs, assistant professor, coordinator of music education, associate professor, director of graduate studies in music and professor, gaining emeritus status in 2009. The founder and director of the University of Rhode Island’s Children Chorus from 1993 to 2000, she has contributed her knowledge to the field as an author and co-editor of music-related books and written articles in professional journals. Dr. Livingston remains active in her career as a member of the National Association for Music Education and its History Research Interest Group, the Music Teachers National Association, and the Rhode Island Music Education Association. Y vonne Lowrie has achieved much success within her 50-year career as an educator and artist due to her ability to implement her artistic skills into her teaching practice. Ms. Lowrie has taught sewing to individuals interested in learning the craft at S-T-R-E-T-C-H and Sew Fabric Center in Arlington, Texas. She has also been a director and assistant executive director of the Center for Transforming Lives’ Teenage/Y- Teen program. Her achievements include being a leader and coordinator of 13 youth and adult trips to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts centers in Switzerland, England, Mexico and India, which garnered over 150 participants. Her artwork has been showcased at various exhibitions in Texas, and she recently won a first place blue ribbon for one of her masterpieces. She is a member of various women’s organizations across the nation, including the American Business Women’s Association, and has served as its president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Her hard work and civic contributions earned her a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Woman of Distinction Award from the Girl Scouts of Texas in 2015. Carolyn H.
