31 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine A cademic administrators like Dr. Peter Armacost have the responsibility of organizing and managing support systems and activities that keep educational institutions running smoothly. The president emeritus of Eckerd College and Forman Christian College, Dr. Armacost handled such tasks with ease for over five decades. To prepare for his professional career, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Denison University in 1957 and continued his education by earning a PhD from the University of Minnesota in 1963. Later on during his career, he received an honorary Doctor of Laws from Ottawa University in 2011. Prior to his retirement, Dr. Armacost served as president of Eckerd College from 1977 to 2000 and as president and principal of Forman Christian College from 2002 to 2012. He was also a senior advisor for the Council of Independent Colleges from 2001 to 2003 and worked for Ottawa University for a decade, serving as president and a professor of psychology. Being well-versed in academic administration, Dr. Armacost was able to secure positions as a program director for the Association of American Colleges and as dean of students and chairman of the psychology department at Augsburg College. Dr. Armacost continues to be active in his field through his memberships in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, and the American Association for Higher Education. He has also served on the boards of the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan, the Association of American Colleges, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. Dr. Armacost is a former Woodrow Wilson Fellow and Danforth Fellow who received a Distinguished Alumnus Citation from Denison University and was named to the Tampa Bay Business Journal Hall of Fame in 1999.
