33 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine A s a clinical nurse specialist and administrator, Marianne Saunorus Baird has a background in diagnosing and treating illnesses in patients, as well as managing the nursing staff in a health care facility. Backed by a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Loyola University Chicago, a Master of Science in nursing from Emory University, and certification as an ACLS instructor, she is well- equipped to handle the demands of the job. Ms. Baird has worked at several facilities, acting as a supervisor of surgical nursing at Rush University Medical Center from 1978 to 1980 and as director of the medical surgical unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where she was also an intensive care staff nurse, critical care clinical nurse specialist, and case manager for the departments of pulmonary care and nephrology. A clinical associate faculty member at Emory University from 1990 to 1996, Ms. Baird currently serves as a corporate director of the Magnet® recognition program at the Emory Health Center, a position she has held since 2016. In addition to showcasing her managerial abilities, she has imparted her knowledge by writing articles in professional journals, contributing to several nursing textbooks, and editing the seventh edition of the AACN Procedure Manual for Critical Care. Her affiliations include the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, for which she served on the board of directors for the Atlanta chapter from 1984 to 1986, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Holistic Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, and the American Organization of Nurse Executives. She received a federal traineeship from Emory University in 1980 and was named one of the Outstanding Young Women of America in 1991.
