Marquis Who's Who Millennium Magazine

111 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine F or close to six decades, Dr. Gerald Dionne has conducted scientific research into the structures, forces and phenomena that shape the natural world. To prepare for his career, Dr. Dionne obtained a Bachelor of Science in physics from Loyola College, a Bachelor of Science in engineering physics, a Ph.D. in physics from McGill University, and a Master of Science in physics. Currently serving as a member of the research staff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory since 2012, he has proven to have the drive and dedication to succeed in his field. He began his career in 1959 as a junior engineer at IBM, where he served for a year before progressing to become a senior engineer for Sylvania Electric Products. After leaving both companies, he gained fellowship in the National Research Council of Canada and later began working at McGill University as a research assistant and lecturer. His experience led to continued success at MIT, where he was part of the Lincoln Laboratory services personnel and a research affiliate of the materials science and engineering department. Throughout his career, Dr. Dionne has accomplished many great feats, including obtaining patents for microwaves, superconducting, magnetic and optical technology and conducting research on magnetism and magnetic materials, magnetoelastic and magneto-optic phenomena and devices, magnetic spin transport, magnetoresistance, and superconductivity theory and devices. He has also researched submillimeter- wave and far-infrared physics, instrumentation for atmospheric spectroscopy, and the physics of electron emission. He published his first book, “Magnetic Oxides” in 2009 and wrote articles in science journals. Dr. Dionne is a research adviser and consultant who remains active in his field through his affiliations, including being a fellow of IEEE and the American Physical Society, as well as a member of the Materials Research Society and the Corporation of Professional Engineers in Quebec.
