114 MILLENNIUM A credit manager’s job is to work closely with accounts receivable and collections to ensure that all financial decisions a company makes are in their best interest. Ernest Joseph Dossin has over four decades of experience managing the credit of various organizations. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in business at Valparaiso University in 1963, a Master of Business Administration at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1978, and postgraduate work at Walden University in 1998. He began his managerial career as an assistant store manager at W.T. Grant department store for two years. He took the experience he gained there and became director of accounting for American Express from 1968 to 1969. Beginning to make a name for himself, he later seized the opportunity to become the assistant to the chairman for Americana Hotels in New York City. He stayed with the company for 10 years, receiving promotions to director of casinos in 1970 and director of credit in 1972. Mr. Dossin left Americana Hotels and later became president of Dossin’s Consulting Associates, a role he held for 23 years. Mr. Dossin retired in 2016, but his resume includes much more than managing major corporations. He was an adjunct faculty member at SUNY Plattsburgh and later a guest lecturer at the same institution. Mr. Dossin has also led seminars on improving credit practices and helped others learn ways to manage their personal credit. Along with his career-related experience, he has affiliations with organizations including the National Association of Credit Management and the International Energy Credit Association, for which he served on the executive board. Mr. Dossin is heavily involved civically as a corporate board member of CVPH Medical Center and treasurer of the New England Synod.
