55 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine D r. Morris Blajchman was always excited to teach and share his knowledge with younger generations, and he has excelled at both during his career. As a professor at McMaster University, he continues to mentor students to help them achieve their goals. He received a Bachelor of Science in 1960 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1964, both from McGill University. His educational background prepared him to reach new heights in his career as an educator and physician. Dr. Blajchman began his career as a hematologist for Hamilton Civic Hospital from 1970 to 1975 and for McMaster University Medical Centre from 1975 to 1998. The experience and skills gained from these positions allowed him to become chief of service of hematology and head of the transfusion medicine service at McMaster from 1985 to 1998. During his tenure, he also began to pursue his second passion: teaching. From 1970 to 1976, he was an assistant professor and then became an associate professor from 1976 to 1982. Dr. Blajchman served as medical director for several humanitarian organizations, including the Canadian Red Cross Society and Canadian Blood Services. In addition to these executive roles, he was chair of the steering committee of the National Institutes of Health Clinical Trials Network for Transfusion Medicine and Hemostasis, as well as the head of transfusion medical services at McMaster University Medical Centre. Dr. Blajchman is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a member of the American Association of Blood Banks, the American Society of Hematology, the Canadian Society for Transfusion Medicine, the New York Academy of Sciences, the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Inc., the International Society of Hematology, and the International Society of Blood Transfusion.
