90 MILLENNIUM T he Big Apple, also known as the “concrete jungle,” is where dreams are made. New Yorkers know what it means to strive and work hard to turn hopes into realities. This is certainly true for attorney Robert Cohen. Mr. Cohen was born on January 14, 1939, in New York City. With dreams of becoming a big-time lawyer, he attended Alfred University, which is five hours away from New York City, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1959. Intent on achieving his goals, Mr. Cohen continued his education at Fordham University and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws in 1962. His law career began in 1968, when he became senior partner of Cohen Clair Lans Greifer Thorpe & Rottenstreich LLP. In 2011, he was appointed to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Judicial Screening Committee. While Mr. Cohen has enjoyed great personal accomplishments throughout his career, he has also made several contributions to the field of law. He was a law review editor, wrote for many legal journals, and authored a book in 2004 for couples who want to keep their marriages intact. He was uniquely qualified to write this book, as he has earned a reputation as a well-known and respected divorce attorney. While Mr. Cohen’s current goal is to continue successfully practicing law, he also wants to spend as much time with his family as possible. He has four sons: Christopher, Ian, Joshua and Nicholas, and of those four, Nicholas has followed in his footsteps. Additionally, Mr. Cohen is a lecturer, speaker and adjunct professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He has been known for working on many high-profile cases, but the divorce of Athina Onassis was his most public by far.
