348 MILLENNIUM W ith her litigation prowess and determination to see justice prevail, Sybil Shainwald has maintained a 30-year career in her field. Ms. Shainwald obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary in 1948, a Master of Arts from Columbia University in 1972, and a Juris Doctor from the New York Law School in 1976. That same year she gained admittance to the New York State Bar. Before opening her private practice in 1985, Ms. Shainwald imparted her knowledge to future lawyers as an adjunct professor in the department of law at Baruch College from 1981 to 1982 and as a legal advisor for the American Foundation for Maternal Child and Health. She has also contributed her knowledge to the field as a co-editor of the journal Women & Health and author of many articles published in professional journals. Ms. Shainwald has been heavily involved in legal advocacy, establishing the Kenneth R. Feinberg Scholarship at New York Law School and serving as chair of the Sidney Shainwald Public Interest Lecture Series. She is also a trustee of New York Law School and the Civil Justice Foundation, as well as co-founder and former board member of Trial Lawyers for Public Justice. A member of the board of directors of the Consumer Interest Research Institute, she has also served on the boards of many health-related organizations. Ms. Shainwald’s hard work and diligence have been recognized throughout her career, as she is the recipient of the Center for Women’s Leadership Award, the Dean’s Award for Distinguished Achievement from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Edith I.
