360 MILLENNIUM A s a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, and the New York State Association of School Attorneys, Terence Smolev has been making an impact in the legal field. As a partner in charge of tax controversies for Berkman, Henoch, Peterson, Peddy & Fenchel, P.C., Mr. Smolev has over four decades of experience gleaned from climbing the ladder toward success at law firms across New York. Mr. Smolev came from humble beginnings as an accountant for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in 1969 and over the course of a year made his way to become the director of deferred giving at Hofstra University. Before making a home at his current firm, he was a partner in Naidich & Smolev, PC and opened a private practice that was in operation from 1992 to 2016, as well as partner in charge of taxation, trusts and estates at a large Nassau County law firm. Mr. Smolev has an extensive background in community service and has served on the boards of several legal organizations on Long Island and in other parts of New York. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Hofstra University in 1966, a Juris Doctor from the Washington College of Law at American University in 1969, and a Master of Laws in taxation from New York University in 1974, and was admitted into the New York state bar in 1970. He has been honored for his dedication to Hofstra University with the George M. Estabrook Award and the Alumni Achievement Award, and was recognized as Hofstra University’s Alumnus of the Year and Senator of the Year. Mr. Smolev was also an honoree of the Diabetes Research Foundation. In addition, he has been honored by the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County, the Gurwin Jewish Healthcare Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
