361 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine S kipi Lundquist Smoot is a licensed psychologist based in California. Dr. Smoot started her professional life as the owner and operator of McDonald’s restaurants in San Pedro and Torrance, Calif., as well as Williamsburg, Va. After working for the franchise, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the College of William and Mary. A year after graduating with her degree, she became a psychotherapist for College Hospital and obtained a Master of Arts at Pepperdine University. She continued to progress professionally, working as a psychotherapist at other facilities across the state of California. In 1984 she became a psychologist for Orange County Mental Health and subsequently earned a Ph.D. from the California School of Professional Psychology the following year. After obtaining the credentials necessary to succeed in her career, she became the clinical director of two other facilities in California before opening her private practice in 1995. Dr. Smoot has contributed her knowledge to the field as a writer, penning a book entitled “Maturation: The Adult Paradigm,” which was published in 2011 and addresses the theoretical model of psychological maturation she has been developing over the past two decades. The model was originally designed as a technique similar to searching for clues in a mystery to help chronically ill patients in Newport Beach, Calif., find their true selves. Her affiliations include the American Psychological Association and the California Psychological Association.
