371 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine A nne Sterling has over 14 years of experience in the publishing industry. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in history, Ms. Sterling was set to make a name for herself in the field. She began her publishing career on the editorial staff of Columbia University’s FORUM quarterly journal in 1969 and was promoted a year later to assistant editor of the School of Business’ Hermes magazine. She left the institution in 1974 and began working at Random House Publications, where she was a rights and permissions associate and human resources associate. She continued to advance, becoming a writing assistant for the syndicated columnist Robert B. Parker, notes editor for Vassar College’s quarterly magazine, community editor of the Rhinebeck Gazette Advertiser, a writing instructor for the BOCES program for gifted children within Poughkeepsie public schools, and a lecturer for Open University. The skills she acquired throughout her career allowed Ms. Sterling to build and grow nonprofit organizations from scratch, working with them until they were fully staffed and ready to run independently. Once she had achieved the successful startup of a nonprofit, she would move on to the next project. She currently works for Transparency Virginia, a collection of advocacy groups and nonprofits that believe the legislative process in Virginia must be as open and transparent to the public as possible. In addition to her publishing career, she has been actively involved with a number of organizations, including the National Organization of Women, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the American Association of University Women. She received the Gold Award from the International Association of Torch Clubs in 2010. Anne Sterling Director Transparency Virginia Richmond, VA
