415 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine B rooks M. Whitehurst is a registered professional chemical engineer of great ingenuity who has solidified over six decades of experience in his field. He obtained a Bachelor of Science fromVirginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and began his career as a senior process assistant for the American Enka Corporation. After serving in the position for five years, he became a senior process development engineer for the Virginia-Carolina Chemical Corporation. His diligence aided him in maintaining positions as a project engineer for Texaco, Inc., manager of engineering services and manager of special projects and long-range planning for Texasgulf, Inc. He also delved into education as a lecturer at Virginia Tech, instructor and consultant on alternative sources of energy at a community college and university. Since 1981, he has been president of Whitehurst Associates, Inc. Dr. Whitehurst has 30 patents in the field and is currently working on biodegradable chelate systems, municipal yard waste disposal, micronutrients for agriculture, waste rubber recycling, and the conversion of industrial byproducts containing manganese and phosphorous into useful nontoxic materials for use in agriculture-related environmental cleanup. Through his constant dedication to produce innovative technologies, he has reached new heights in his career. Some of his achievements include the development of chelates for organic agriculture and environmentally friendly products for forest fertilization and a process for cleansing impure phosphoric acid. He also received patents for the development of products and processes to minimize ammonia volatilization from urea, products for the application of micronutrient coatings on solid fertilizer substrates, and the development of coatings used on crops to prevent loss of micronutrients such as manganese, boron and zinc. His ingenious research and innovations have earned himmuch recognition, including a Gold Medal and being named Honorable Director General by the International Biographical Centre, being named to the Engineering Hall of Fame in 2014, and recently receiving the Sir Isaac Newton Legacy of Honor Award.
