418 MILLENNIUM J anet Wilder has over 50 years of performing arts and education experience. With teaching certifications from the Cecchetti Council of America, the Chicago National Dance Masters Association and the state of California, Ms. Wilder enjoyed a career that proved to be successful. She began her teaching career at Santa Venetia Middle School in San Rafael, California. After serving one year at the school, she relocated to Italy, working as a fitness and dance instructor from 1969 to 1971. She returned to the United States and became an instructor for the Julie Ward School of Dance. Her hard work and dedication as an instructor and artistic director took her across the country to places like South Dakota, Washington, Sacramento, Nebraska and Texas. In 1979, she became a dancer for the Omaha Ballet, serving in that position for two years before becoming the director of Ballet Arts School in San Antonio, Texas. With her vast knowledge of the performing arts, she became co-owner and co-director of the Ballet Arts Academy in the state of Washington. Through her experience with the school, she was able to co-found and direct the Theatre Ballet of Spokane. She utilized the skills and knowledge she gained through her roles as a choreographer, producer and director as owner and director of the Academy of Dance in Spokane Valley, a position she held from 1994 until her retirement. As part of her career endeavors, Ms. Wilder has been a ballet advisory board member for Musicfest Northwest and founder and member of the Inland Northwest Dance Association. She has also authored two books, “Terms Every Dancer Should Know” and “The Toy Shelf,” and choreographed over 150 ballets, operas and musicals. She has received many awards for her contributions to the performing arts, including the Outstanding Young Women of America Award.
