437 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine C arol Bekendam has been studying social processes, cognitive, emotional and human behavior for over four decades. Before embarking on her career as a psychologist, Dr. Bekendamwas working in a prison. During her time there, she realized that she wanted to help people before they got themselves into trouble and ended up in prison. She graduated summa cum laude fromCalifornia Polytechnic State University with a Bachelor of Arts in behavioral science, received a Master of Arts in marriage and family counseling, summa cum laude, fromAzusa Pacific University, and earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, summa cum laude, from Fielding Graduate University. Certified in criminal justice and hypnotherapy, she has served as a Southern California representative for M-2, and as executive director, director and owner of the Creative Counseling Center in Pomona and Claremont. A recipient of the Achievement Award fromCalifornia Polytechnic State University and theWomen Helping Women Award from Soroptomist International, she remains active in her field through her community service and memberships in the American Association of UniversityWomen and the American Psychological Association. Dr. Bekendam attributes her success to her strong belief in God. R etired educator Dorothy Betts began imparting her knowledge to students in New Mexico. Before embarking on her career, Ms. Betts obtained a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and a Master of Arts in education from the University of New Mexico in 1968 and 1976, respectively. As a certified teacher in New Mexico, she began her career with the Newman-Gustine District, where she worked from 1968 to 1969. After leaving that district, she began working for Albuquerque Public Schools, where she served as a teacher for over 35 years from 1969 to 1979, 1980 to 1984, and 1999 to 2004. In addition to teaching, she was also an educational assistant, a position she held from 1993 to 1999, and was a co-owner for Storks News New Mexico. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, which she served as first vice president from 1982 to 1984, president from 1984 to 1986, and second vice president from 2000 to 2002.
