464 MILLENNIUM A s a legal nurse consultant and owner of Mykroskopics Legal Search in Brooklyn, New York, with a strong passion for nursing, Julia A. Harris has solidified more than 40 years in the field. Ms. Harris’ background is in operating room nursing with specialties in urology, gynecology, and vascular and orthopedic surgery. She served as a nurse investigator who assessed and investigated long-term care of clients’ eligibility to collect coverage following an illness or injury that became chronic or prolonged over an extended period. She has also held a position as a school nurse and preceptor for new school nurses and is currently teaching nursing as a professor in the School of Nursing at Monroe College in New York. Recently, Ms. Harris was part of the Women’s Empowerment program at Monroe College, which involved mentoring 250 high school female students in the community. She attributes her success to always pursuing new goals and to being a lifelong learner in all aspects of nursing. Looking to the future, Ms. Harris intends to continue teaching at Monroe College, as their mission matches her mission of empowering students to become better and more informed citizens. D uring the 20th century, many women like Marjorie Head were guided into teaching and clerical work. Ms. Head’s teachers encouraged her to become an educator due to her performance as an exceptional student. With the support of her teachers and family, she went to school to embark on her career, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from Marshall University and a Master of Arts from Columbia University Teachers College. After graduating with her credentials, she worked as a teacher in New York, Virginia, Mississippi and Florida, retiring in 1987. In addition to her career in education, she has also been a member of the Broward County Board of Commissioners since 1991, and the president of several other organizations. Ms. Head is an avid volunteer who contributes to Planned Parenthood, the Friends Committee on National Legislation, the American Friends Service Committee, and several organizations that are working toward women’s rights. Her successful career is attributed to her work toward creating a better world, a better understanding of each other and a love of the earth and the people on it. Ms. Head has been featured in Who’s Who in America.
