496 MILLENNIUM A fter earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1950 and a Master of Arts in 1951 at Florida State University, Cynthia J. Schumacher taught for two years an English teacher in Cairo, Georgia, and for two years as an elementary teacher in Melbourne, Florida. The remainder of her teaching career was spent in Lake County, Florida, where she served as an elementary teacher, curriculum generalist and high school English teacher until her retirement in 1985. From 1968 to 1969 she participated in an Experienced Teacher Fellowship program and completed additional postgraduate work at Florida State University. During her years in Lake County, she assumed additional leadership roles at various times by serving as a member of the Education Standards Commission for the state of Florida and as president of the League of Women Voters. Throughout her career she received awards for her contributions to public education, including being named 1985 Lake County Teacher of the Year and 1986 Central Florida Teacher of the Year. She was later the recipient of a Leesburg Chamber of Commerce Good Egg Award in 1991 and a state education association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. F or more than three decades Liisa K. Selin has been ensuring her patients are properly taken care of as a physician. To prepare for her career, Dr. Selin earned a Bachelor of Science, Doctor of Medicine, and a Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba. Her career began as a medical intern and later a resident in internal medicine, at the University of Manitoba. Since the start of her professional career in 1979, Dr. Selin has made great strides towards a successful career. Taking a turn from practicing, she began imparting her knowledge as an instructor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and since then, has continued a her career as an educator at the institution, earning positions such as assistant professor, associate professor and her current role as professor. She has continued to be an innovator in the field through her research in T-cell mediated heterologous immunity in viral infections and has earned much recognition for her work, including various research grants. She remains an active member of the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease Canada and the American Association of Immunologists. Cynthia J.
