498 MILLENNIUM L ois E. Shenk is a well-renowned freelance writer with over 50 years of experience in the field. Since a young girl Ms. Shenk has always had an interest in writing. From 1966 to 1968 she served as an English mistress at Githumu Secondary School in Kenya and continued to impart her knowledge as an English teacher at Kraybill’s Junior High. Since 1978 she has honed her skills as a freelance writer. Her literary prowess has allowed her to author several works, contribute poems, stories and features to journals as well as complete editorial work for the Mennonite Central Committee. Her work and contributions to the field have been awarded with the Global Fellowship Certificate, the Lifetime Achievement Award, and has been named Honorary Director General of IBC in 2009. Ms. Shenk is a member of the Order of Distinction, the Lancaster County Conservancy and IBC. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Eastern Mennonite College in 1966 and a Master of Science in education at Temple University in 1984. W ith her literary prowess, Rosemarie Skaine has maintained a career as a writer, publisher and educator. Ms. Skaine obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Dakota and a Master of Arts from the University of Northern Iowa and began her career as an English teacher for the Ovid Central School District in New York from 1958 to 1960. She took a break from education in 1963 to become an administrative and legislative assistant for President Kennedy’s Consumer Advisory Council chairperson in 1963 and returned to education thereafter as an adjunct sociology instructor at Wartburg College and adjunct composition instructor at Hawkeye Community College. In addition to her career, Ms. Skaine has volunteered for many presidential campaigns. She co- authored and authored several stories and nonfiction books, and has edited and written articles in professional journals. Her tireless efforts have resulted in several awards, including being an inductee of the Grand Island Senior High School Hall of Honor in 2008 and receiving an award from the Southern Poverty Law Center and an award from the women’s studies undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Northern Iowa.
