499 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine C olonel Nelson Dean Smittle is a military analyst who began his career as a commissioned 2nd lieutenant for the United States Army in 1962. Col. Smittle obtained a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and a Master of Arts from the University of Cincinnati. Currently a visiting professor of fine arts at Xaviers University he holds a certificate in permanent teaching from the State of Ohio. With his military background, he has held many leadership positions, including staff officer, commander, director of information systems, and commander of the engineering installation division. In 1994 he retired from the United States Air Force and began educating others as teacher at Princeton City School District and lecturer at Mount St. Joseph University. Col. Smittle has authored five books on America’s war on terrorism, including “Thumbs Up America” and “Americans at War” volumes 1 through 5. He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, the Military Officers Association of America, the American Society of Aviation Artists, the Reserve Officers Association, the Air Force Association, the Cincinnati Warbirds, and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation amongst others. L inguists like Magnús Snædal study how words and sounds have evolved over time, as well as how they may be related to other languages, both ancient and modern. Mr. Snædal was born in Akureyri, Iceland, where he completed his formal education and currently works. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Icelandic language and literature and a degree in Icelandic linguistics from the University of Iceland in 1978 and 1982 respectively. After receiving his credentials, he made a career for himself at his alma mater that has spanned over two decades. He began working for the institution as a lecturer in general linguistics from 1989 to 1994. During his time in that position, he also worked as a language consultant for the Icelandic Medical Association, ending his tenure in 1996. Mr. Snædal was an associate professor of general linguistics from 1994 to 2006 and then advanced to full professorship. As a profound linguist, Mr. Snædal has authored and edited several books on the subject. His contributions led to several recognitions, including being featured in Who’s Who in the World.
