138 MILLENNIUM W ith a Bachelor of Science in biology from Emory University and an MD from the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Arthur C. Fleischer was sure to lead a successful career in medical education and radiology. Dr. Fleischer became involved in his profession because of his childhood interest in science and research. He began his journey at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1976, serving as a radiology resident. He continued to move through the ranks, becoming a professor of radiology and obstetrics and gynecology in 1988, and the Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair in 2011. Currently, Dr. Fleischer serves as the medical director of ultrasound. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and previously served on its board of governors, as well as a member and fellow of the American College of Radiology. He is also a fellow of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound and a member and former president of the Society for the Advancement of Women’s Imaging. Dr. Fleischer is the author of more than 240 papers and 24 books, and currently serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Medical College of Georgia in 2007, the Frank H. Boehm Award for contributions to continuing medical education from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 2005, the CANDLE Award from the Vanderbilt School of Medicine for medical student education in 2002, and a Lifetime Service Award from the American Board of Radiology in 2015. He has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World. Looking to the future, Dr. Fleischer hopes to encourage clinical excellence while providing support and guidance to young investigators. Arthur C.
