181 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine W ith a background in aviation, George Brooks Harrison has over five decades of experience as a fighter pilot, operations officer and commander in the U.S. Air Force. Although retired from military work, Gen. Harrison continues to extend his knowledge as an engineer, consultant and researcher in the field. As a lifelong aviator, he has received many awards and accolades for his time in the service, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Medal with eleven oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Distinguished Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Association of Old Crows Gold medal, the Lieutenant General Glen Kent Leadership Award, and the FAA’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. Throughout his career, he has held many prestigious positions, including being a fighter pilot and forward air controller and an instructor in the 557 th and 436 th Tactical Fighter Squadron. During his career he accumulated over 500 combat flying hours. Gen. Harrison served as a U.S. delegate for NATO’s Advisory Group on Aerospace Research and Development, as well as a sponsor for the Military Operations Research Society from 1989 to 1991. Since 1982 he has served as a lecturer to military, technical and civic groups. He has used his knowledge and experience to contribute articles to military journals in the field. Gen. Harrison remains a fellow of Beta Gamma Sigma and a member of the Air Force Association, the Quiet Birdmen and the Order of Daedalians, for which he served as a flight captain from 1987 to 1989 and again from 2003 to 2005. Gen. Harrison’s career is backed by a Bachelor of Science in engineering and public policy from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1962 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970.
