193 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine I t is imperative that upstanding and dedicated people are put in place to ensure that citizens are abiding by the laws of a society, while it is the duty of judges to preside over cases, deliver fair and just decisions, and uphold the law. Not everyone has what it takes, but E. Patricia Herron excelled at the job. Having obtained a master’s degree from The Catholic University of America in 1956 and a JD from the University of California, Berkeley in 1964, Judge Herron had the tools necessary to be admitted to the State Bar of California in 1965. In 1977 she began serving as a judge for the Superior Court of California and then remained in that capacity for 10 years. With her newfound experience, she became a private judge from 1987 to 1990, and then began working for JAMS, a private provider of alternative dispute resolution services, for 15 years. Prior to embarking on her legal career, Judge Herron held several positions as an educator. She was an assistant dean at The Catholic University of America, an instructor at Auburn High School, assistant dean of Wells College, an instructor of psychology and history, a counselor at Contra Costa College, and director at Stanford University. Although retired, Judge Herron is active in numerous civic organizations and has served on several foundation boards. In 2011 she received the Citation Award from the UC Berkeley School of Law, the institution’s highest honor, which recognizes exceptional contributions to the bar, the bench, legal scholarship, the state, nation, and the world. One of her biggest honors is being the namesake of the E. Patricia Herron Scholarship, which grants an award of $1,000 to $10,000 to provide financial and community support to a local law student who has demonstrated involvement in women’s issues. During her fruitful career as a judge, she was also the owner and manager of The Barricia Vineyards from 1978 to 2008. E. Patricia Herron Judge (Retired) Sonoma, CA
