194 MILLENNIUM D r. H. Mark Hildebrandt is a retired pediatrician with over 54 years of professional experience in the treatment of children, from birth to early adulthood. As a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics, he provided routine preventative health examinations and diagnosed and treated a wide range of illnesses. To hone his skills, he completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital from 1952 to 1955. Wanting to help future pediatricians fulfill their dreams, he was a clinical assistant professor from 1958 to 1971 and a clinical associate professor from 1971 to 2006 at the University of Michigan. Never ceasing to care for patients, he operated a private practice in Ann Arbor, Mich. from 1955 to 1987. He opened another private practice in Ypsilanti, Mich., which remained open for 19 years until his retirement in 2006. Dr. Hildebrandt established the University of Michigan Hospital’s Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Team (SCAN) in 1971, was a member of the affiliate faculty at the University of Michigan from 1978 to 2006, and was a commissioner for the Ann Arbor Historic District Commission from 2000 to 2006. Although retired, he remains active in the field as a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Ambulatory Pediatric Association, and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1948 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1952, both from the University of Michigan.
