210 MILLENNIUM D r. Pauline James is a retired educator with 40 years of experience in her field. Dr. James began her career in the mid-1960s by teaching chemistry and general science for two years in Sheffield, England. From 1967 to 1969, she lived in Atlanta, Ga., where she became an instructor in chemistry at Georgia State University, and, having left the United States to settle in Australia, taught at Brisbane Girls Grammar School from 1970 to 1972. Five years later, she became a senior tutor in educational psychology and a lecturer and senior lecturer at the Hawthorn Institute of Education in Melbourne. Upon joining the University of Melbourne, she served as a postgraduate coordinator in the Department of Vocational Education and Training, a director of research training in the Centre for Human Resource Development and Training, and a principal fellow and associate professor until her retirement in 2005. Dr. James achieved much throughout her career, including receiving an Exemplary Doctoral Thesis Award from La Trobe University in 1993 and joint research grants from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research in 1998 and the Department of Education, Employment and Training in 2000. She was a member of the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Vocational Education & Training from 1997 to 2005 and an editorial advisor for the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Vocational Education Research from 2003 to 2005. Upon retiring, she wrote a novel titled “Disturbing the Dust,” available on Amazon worldwide and, in Australia, from the publisher Woodslane Press. Her successful career is backed by her extensive education, which includes a Bachelor of Science, with honors, in chemistry from the University of Sheffield, a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Educational Studies from the University of Queensland, and a Doctor of Philosophy from La Trobe University.
