219 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine T hroughout a diverse career in academic medicine and the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Fran E. Kaiser has been an invaluable resource for colleagues and a tireless advocate for the patients who entrust her with their care. In her most recent role, she relies on nearly 40 years of experience in teaching and clinical research when serving as a consultant to clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. As an endocrinologist and gerontologist, she is considered a recognized authority on certain types of hormonal changes related specifically to aging, osteoporosis and women’s health and sexuality. Dr. Kaiser received a BS from the City College of New York and an MD fromNew York Medical College. After completing an internship at Beth Israel Medical Center and a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of Minnesota, she joined the latter’s faculty as an instructor and assistant professor in the department of medicine. She later taught at the UCLA School of Medicine and St. Louis University before serving as senior regional medical director and executive regional medical director for Merck & Co., one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Calling upon her experience in clinical research and medical affairs, she worked alongside subject matter experts and participated in studies of erectile dysfunction, osteoporosis and hormonal imbalances before establishing her consulting business after she retired fromMerck & Co. in 2016. In addition to her role as an academician, consultant and researcher, Dr. Kaiser has also contributed to the production and dissemination of medical literature as an investigator, as well as an ad hoc reviewer for Endocrinology, the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, and JAMA®, the Journal of the American Medical Association. She was also previously a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology &Metabolism and the American Geriatric Society. The recipient of grants from the National Institutes of Health, Genetech andThe Federal Bureau of Health Professions, she continues looking for innovative ways to diagnose and treat conditions associated with the aging endocrine system and teach practitioners who provide care for an aging population.
