247 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine J ohn J. Lombard has more than 40 years of experience representing high-profile clients such as the University of Pennsylvania and 30 years with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, whose representation included the estate case of John G. Johnson, whereby 1,278 paintings were bequeathed to the museum. Mr. Lombard also successfully represented the sole survivor of the Northwest Airlines flight that killed six crew members and 147 of its 148 passengers. To prepare for his professional career, he received a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from LaSalle College in 1956 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959. Upon graduating, he became partner of Obermayer, Rebmann, Maxwell & Hippel. He gained admittance to the Pennsylvania State Bar during his first year at the firm, then remained there for 25 years before becoming manager of the personal law section of Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP. Throughout 14 years with the company, he served as vice chair of the personal law section and chair of the company. Subsequently, he left the firm in 1999 and became special counsel for McCarter & English, LLP, a position he currently holds. Mr. Lombard was the secretary and director of the Airline Hydraulics Corporation and served on the Joint State Government Commission’s advisory committee on decedents’ estate laws. He also chaired the latter’s subcommittee on powers of attorney and was co-chair and emeritus chair of the Southern Jersey Ethics Alliance. He has been recognized for his vast contributions to the field as a recipient of the Treat Award from the National College of Probate Judges in 1992, a Distinguished Estate Planner Award from the Estate Planning Council in 2002, and the William J. Whelan Alumni Service Award for his consistent and dedicated service to LaSalle College High School and its alumni.
