263 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine A s a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Infectious Diseases, Dr. Joseph R. Masci diagnosed and treated injuries and illnesses, prescribed medications and counseled patients on their health for over three decades. Dr. Masci began his career as an instructor of medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine from 1979 to 1980. He made a home at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine thereafter, severing in several roles in an educational capacity, including instructor of medicine from 1982 to 1984, assistant professor of clinical medicine from 1984 to 1988, assistant professor of medicine from 1988 to 1990, associate professor of medicine from 1990 to 2003, director of medicine, and professor of medicine. In addition to solidifying his place at Mount Sinai, he has also planted roots at Elmhurst Hospital Center, serving as associate director of medicine from 1987 to 2002, chief of infectious disease from 1999 to 2002, and director of medicine since 2002. His education prepared him to lead a successful career in medicine, as he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University in 1972 and a Doctor of Medicine from New York University in 1976. He has written extensively on topics related to his field and has been a peer reviewer for the National Institutes of Health since 1994.
