265 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine D r. Roger Davis Masters is a political scientist, toxicologist and educator with over 50 years of professional experience in the field. When he was younger, his father owned a business that he thought his son would take over. One day, while walking home from school, Dr. Masters had a sudden realization that he wanted to be a teacher. It was from that point on that he dedicated his life to being an educator. In 1961 he began his professional career at Yale University, where he was an instructor in the department of political science for a year before becoming an assistant professor, a position he held from 1962 to 1967. After leaving the institution, he made a home at Dartmouth College, beginning as a professor from 1973 to 1998. During his tenure imparting his knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students, he worked his way up the ladder of success, serving as the John Sloan Dickey Third Century professor, chairman of the department, Nelson A. Rockefeller professor, and research professor. In 1998, he earned the title of professor emeritus. A member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Political Science Association, the Association for Political and Life Science, and the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, Dr. Masters contributed his knowledge and expertise as an author, editor and co-editor of many books related to the political science and science fields. He is also been a Fulbright Fellow through Sciences Po, a fellow of the Joint Yale University Social Science Research Council, a Guggenheim Fellow, and a Fellow of the Hastings Center for Ethics and Life Sciences. Dr. Masters’ five-decade career is backed by a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, a Master of Arts in political science and a PhD from the University of Chicago.
