267 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine S ocial workers like Susan Matorin have the responsibility of helping individuals, families and groups of people cope with problems they are facing to help improve their lives. Ms. Matorin, a certified social worker, has been working with the New York population for over five decades. To prepare for her career, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College in 1964 and completed postgraduate work at the Columbia University School of Social Work in 1966. Taking with her the knowledge she acquired, she served as chief of social work for the Washington Heights Community Service program at the New York State Psychiatric Institute from 1966 to 1978. After leaving the institution, she became chief of ambulatory of social work and psychology at Presbyterian Hospital/ Columbia University Medical Center from 1978 to 1981. She continued to excel in her career as a director of social work, program director and treatment coordinator of the affective disorder team, a position she has held since 2000. Ms. Matorin has served as a member of the advisory council, second vice chair, and an adjunct associate professor at the Columbia University School of Social Work. She was also on the board of trustees for the Jewish Board of Family & Children's Services and a member of the pastoral education and research committee for the HealthCare Chaplaincy Network. A regular speaker in the field, she has also contributed her knowledge to articles published in professional journals and books. She remains active in the field as a fellow of the American Orthopsychiatric Association and a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Academy of Certified Social Workers, and the Society for Social Work Leadership in Healthcare. For her hard work and contributions to the field, Ms. Matorin has received many accolades and awards, including the Distinguished Service Medal from Columbia University, the Centennial Award, and the Hyman J.
