269 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine P harmacologists like Roger Geoffrey Mazlen seek to understand how drugs work so that they can be used effectively and safely. For more than five decades, Dr. Mazlen has investigated how drugs interact with biological systems in various capacities. His contributions to the field have allowed him to author and co-author books such as “Nutrition and Health Care,” as well as serve as a contributor to a chapter of “Quick Reference to Clinical Nutrition.” In 1963, Dr. Mazlen began working at Maimonides Medical Center as an intern. He continued to hone his skills holding several residency and research positions, including resident in medicine at Maimonides Medical Center, resident in medical ophthalmology at Mount Sinai Health System, research associate at the National Institutes of Health, assistant director of clinical research at Wyeth, formerly known as Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, and associate director of research at Schering-Plough Corporation. While at the formerly known Ayerst Laboratories, he developed clinical studies, which he also monitored, leading to the approval of Inderal, the first beta-blockers for use in hypertension in the United States. Wanting to impart his knowledge to future pharmacologists, he accepted a position as adjunct assistant professor of medicine at New York Medical College and continued in the education capacity as a senior clinical assistant professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Additionally, he has worked as a consultant in clinical nutrition and metabolism at South Oaks Hospital as well as a chief science officer for Biomolecular Science, Inc., from 2000 to 2007. His career is backed by a Bachelor of Science in biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Doctor of Medicine from the SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Mazlen is a fellow of the American College of Nutrition where he served as chairman of the council on nutrition and cardiovascular diseases from 1976 to 1985, and a member of the American Chemical Society, the Society for Natural Immunity, and the New York Cardiology Society.
