52 MILLENNIUM M artin Berkon is an accomplished artist who has created a personal concept of abstract painting. He studied at Pratt Institute in 1951, then earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College in 1954 and a Master of Arts from New York University in 1959. He began his career in higher education at Fairleigh Dickenson University and Nassau Community College in 1966. Two years later he was appointed lecturer at the City College of the City University of New York. After leaving City College, he continued working at colleges across New York. He was a guest lecturer at Middlebury College and St. Thomas Aquinas College. Mr. Berkon has had many accomplishments throughout his career. He did two commissions for NASA in the ‘80s. This led to a TV interview from the Long Island Art Scene. He has been featured in numerous one-man shows at locations including the 20 th Century West Gallery, the Soho Center for Visual Artists, the Genesis Galleries and the Schering-Plough Corporation Gallery. His paintings have been included in group shows at the Brooklyn Museum, the Aldrich Museum and the Butler Institute of American Art, and are in the corporate collections of Texaco, PepsiCo and Pfizer.
