204 MILLENNIUM H istorians like Dr. Leslie G. Hunter research, analyze, record, and interpret the past by studying a variety of historical documents and sources. With over 40 years of professional experience in the field, Dr. Hunter has many accomplishments, including being named a Regents Professor, which is the highest honor the Texas A&M University system can bestow on a faculty member. He was also a Minnie Stevens Piper Professor and a “Top Ten Teacher.” Dr. Hunter made his home at Texas A&M University from 1969 until his retirement, serving as an assistant professor, associate professor, professor, and chairman of the department of history before earning the title of Regents Professor emeritus in 2009. In 1991 he was a member of the faculty exchange at the Kiev Policy Institute. He has made presentations at national and international history conferences, including one at the University of London. Dr. Hunter was also the faculty marshal for the College of Arts and Sciences from 1981 to 2001, chair of the history department for two terms, and a graduate coordinator from 1996 until his retirement. Dr. Hunter created computer software and is the author of a detailed account commemorating the 75 th anniversary of Texas A&M, as well as several articles published in professional journals. He was the editor of Historic Kingsville and the Journal of South Texas and a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of South Texas and Social Studies Texan. A member of the American Association of University Professors, the Texas Council for the Social Studies, the Texas Computer Education Association, the South Texas Historical Association, and the Arizona Historical Society, Dr. Hunter holds a Bachelor of Arts in history, a Master of Arts in history, and a PhD in history from the University of Arizona.
