211 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine D r. Wen G. Jiang’s journey to medicine was not a conventional one. A recording error on a university exam led him to the military as his first choice for schooling. Once the error was rectified, Dr. Jiang found himself accepted by the nation’s top medical school, the Peking University Health Science Center. Not wanting to reject an opportunity to find out what led to his father’s death after surgery, he soon fell in love with medicine and medical research. Dr. Jiang relocated to the United Kingdom in 1989 and took on a position as a research fellow at the University of Wales, where he also obtained a medical degree in 1995. He remained at the institution until 2004, serving as a senior research fellow, senior lecturer, and reader of surgery and tumor biology. He later took on an executive position as academic director of international relations at Cardiff University and director of Peking University’s Joint Cancer Institute. He was promoted to honorary professor in 2012 and returned to Cardiff University as dean in 2014. Dr. Jiang has served as a professor of surgery and tumor biology at the Cardiff School of Medicine since 2004, an honorary professor at Capital Medical University since 2007, an honorary professor at Peking University since 2012, and an honorary professor at Qingdao University since 2014. With a focus on targeting cancer metastasis on molecular and cellular levels through innovative therapies, Dr. Jiang has contributed his research and knowledge to the field. He has edited several books on metastasis, contributed many articles, and served on the editorial boards of a number of medical journals and publications. Dr. Jiang remains active in his field as a fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and the Royal Society of Medicine, and a member of many scientific organizations. He was appointed to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire as part of the Queen’s New Year Honours list in January 2017 for his contribution to international cancer research. Wen G.
