215 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine F or over six decades, Dr. Waine Johnson has diagnosed and treated ailments, and advised patients on healthy practices for the skin. Dr. Johnson obtained a Bachelor of Science from Texas State University in 1949 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas in 1953. After graduating with his medical degree, he began his service in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve and became an intern at Brooke Army Hospital that same year. Once he completed his internship, he became a dermatology resident at Walter Reed Army Hospital. He continued working as a fellow in dermal pathology for the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. He left the U.S. Army Reserve in 1962 and took his talents to Philadelphia, Pa., as a member of the staff at the Skin and Cancer Hospital, where he stayed for 16 years and served as an assistant director of the laboratory and director. After gaining much practice in the field, Dr. Johnson decided to impart his knowledge to future dermatologists as a member of the faculty and professor of dermatology at the Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Johnson continued to progress as chairman of the department of dermatology, a clinical professor and as part of the department of dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania, a position he has held since 2006. Dr. Johnson has contributed to his field as an author of numerous papers and as a co-editor of Dermal Pathology. He has garnered recognition and accolades for his work in the field and remains active as a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, the Atlantic Dermatological Conference, the Philadelphia Dermatological Society, the Histochemical Society, the Society for Investigative Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatopathology.
