220 MILLENNIUM F or over 69 years, Philip Spangler Kappes has been a prominent lawyer. Mr. Kappes graduated cum laude from Butler University with a Bachelor of Arts and continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Michigan. After earning his law degree in 1948, he went on to pass the Indiana bar exam that same year. Since earning his credentials, he has made a name for himself in his field. Mr. Kappes began his career as an associate with Armstrong and Gause and later worked for C.B. Dutton. His legal experience led him to become a partner at several firms, including Dutton, Kappes & Overman; Lewis, Kappes Fuller & Eads; and the Creston Group. Additionally, he was the president and director of K&K Realty, Inc., and manager of Labeco Properties, LLC. Currently a partner in Lewis Kappes P.C., Mr. Kappes has also served as secretary and board member for the Laboratory Equipment Corporation. He was formerly a trustee and instructor of business law at Butler University and remains an active member of the American Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the Indiana Bar Foundation, the Indianapolis Bar Association, the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society and the Indianapolis Junior Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Kappes’ efforts as an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America led to his receipt of a James E. West Fellowship, the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, the Silver Bear Award, and distinction as one of 100 Distinguished Scouts of the past 200 years in Indiana. He was also deemed a Distinguished Barrister by the Indiana Business Journal and received the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Paul H. Buchanan Award of Excellence. He has been recognized in Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
