24 MILLENNIUM C ardiologists specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases and conditions of one of the most important parts of the human body — the heart. When dealing with complexities of the heart and its blood vessels, skilled and intelligent cardiologists like Dr. Harvey Alpern help to ensure that the organ is healthy and functioning. In order to be the best at his job, Dr. Alpern received a bachelor’s degree at Pomona College in 1960 and an MD from the University of Southern California four years later. He began his medical career as an intern at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital (now Cedars-Sinai Medical Center), where he remained and became a resident in internal medicine and cardiology. Dr. Alpern left Cedars- Sinai Medical Center in 1968 and became a cardiology fellow at St. Georges Hospital. While he has reached many accomplishments in his career, his biggest was establishing his private practice in Santa Monica, Calif., which he ran from 1970 to 2007. Dr. Alpern has served as director of many boards, including those of Century City Hospital, the National Health Foundation, the Los Angeles Business Council, the American Heart Association, Inc., the International Academy of Independent Medical Evaluators, and CSIMS. He has also served as medical director of Executive Fit Health. During his lengthy career as a cardiologist, Dr. Alpern has imparted his knowledge through his contributions to professional journals. He is affiliated with medical organizations such as the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians, and is a diplomate of both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Medical Specialties. Presently, Dr. Alpern is practicing through Alpern Consulting Inc., providing his disability expertise to those who have been injured and are seeking legal reparations.
