271 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine I t is essential that students learn the fundamentals necessary to progress in their education and succeed later on in life, while teachers like Barbara McFarlin-Kosiec, who is well-versed in various subjects, can help to educate and mold them into well-rounded individuals. Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec’s extensive resume has prepared her to tackle the job diligently. In preparation for a fruitful career in education, she attended Texas Christian University, where she received a Bachelor and Master of Arts, and Gonzaga University, where she received a Ph.D. While her expertise is in Spanish, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec began her career as a general education second-grade teacher in the Mercedes public school district in Texas. She continued progressing as an educator, teaching subjects such as Spanish, English, history and psychology at schools in Texas, Washington, Mexico, and Canada. She’s also ventured into higher education as an adjunct professor of language and culture at Seattle Pacific University. Since 2012, she has been the president of InfoConnect. Aside from teaching, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec has been a choreographer, assistant director and director of various plays, to which she’s also contributed as a writer and producer. Her artistic abilities also include being musically inclined, as she is skilled at playing piano and the organ. Dr.. McFarlin-Kosiec has been active as a member of many organizations, including the National Education Association, the Washington Education Association and the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation. She has been honored on multiple occasions for her contributions to the arts and education, namely with an award of recognition from Columbia Basin College. A woman of many talents, Dr. McFarlin- Kosiec has conducted research in advanced statistics and research design and utilized her vast knowledge and teaching experience to contribute to educational journals. Currently, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec is the president of the Fernie Heritage Cemetery Restoration Society and the Fernie Arts Theatre Ensemble Society. She is a member of the Fernie Community Choir and the Fernie District Arts Council and participates in other local performing groups. She is active in fundraising and grant writing.
