292 MILLENNIUM R etired lawyer and investment company executive, Matthew Nimetz’s career is backed by over five decades of professional experience in the field. To prepare for his career, Mr. Nimetz earned a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College in 1960, a Bachelor’s Art from Balliol College, a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from Oxford University in 1962 and 1966, respectively, and a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard University in 1965. Beginning in the legal field in 1965, he worked for Justice John M. Harlan as a law clerk and later as a staff assistant to President Johnson, serving in that position from 1967 to 1969. As he progressed in the legal field, he obtained many positions, including associate and partner of Simpson Thacher & Barlett, LLP, as well as partner of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. After retiring from the legal field, he delved into the field of investment, using the knowledge and experience he gained in his previous positions to become the executive he is today. As the former director of Renren Inc., he has held many leadership positions, including working with the Department of State in Washington, D.C., as a counselor, acting coordinator for refugee affairs and under the secretary of state for security assistance in science and technology. From 2000 to 2011, he held the title of managing director and chief executive officer of General Atlantic LLC, earning a promotion to advisory director, a position he has held with the company since 2012. Mr. Nimetz remains a member of the New York City Bar Association and the Council on Foreign Relations Clubs. He has been featured in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in American Politics, Who’s Who in Corporate America, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World.
