298 MILLENNIUM W aldo Talmage Oden is a lawyer with many years of legal experience who continues to practice in Oklahoma. Mr. Oden became involved in this industry because he wanted to provide a service to his community like his father. To prepare for his career, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in political economics and a doctorate in law from the University of Oklahoma in 1952. He has been admitted and practiced before the U.S. Supreme Court and the 10th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. Shortly after earning his credentials, he joined his father at Robinson Oden & Oden and later delved into the education field, imparting his legal prowess to students for more 35 years as a professor and faculty coordinator for a master’s degree program at Webster University at Altus Air Force Base. In addition to his legal career, he has garnered leadership experience as assistant county attorney and was elected by the Congressional District to the Judicial Nominating Commission of Oklahoma. He has served as Jackson County Director of Civil Defense and as president of the Altus Library Board in planning the new library. An advocate for delivery of legal services to all persons, he has provided legal services to Habitat for Humanity, Jackson County Free Health Clinic and the Salvation Army, serving on the Army Advisory Board and Community Action organization, which helps the disadvantaged and underprivileged. Having reached many achievements throughout his lengthy career, Mr. Oden’s biggest achievement to date is establishing a judicial nominating system for Oklahoma. This system worked by selecting judges based on nominations and screening. He continues to be an active member of the Jackson County Bar Association, the Oklahoma Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Additionally, he has served as president of the Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Fellowship in 1993 and the State Bar Association Pro Bono Award. Waldo Talmage Oden Lawyer Altus, OK
