300 MILLENNIUM A s a chemist, Ann Onton has the responsibility of studying and researching how chemicals can improve the ways in which people live. Ms. Onton has been excelling in her career for over 51 years. She received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry at Purdue University in 1965 and obtained a position as a laboratory chemist for the Great Lakes Chemical Corporation that same year. From 1967 to 1970, she served as a research assistant for the Geigy Chemical Corporation and was an abstractor for Chemical Abstracts Service from 1970 to 1972. With her hard work, dedication and inquisitive mind, she was able to secure a role as a researcher for the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Prevention Study II. She also served as a research associate for Applied Biotech Concepts, Inc. from 1995 to 1998, and for Genaissance Pharmaceuticals from 1999 to 2000. Ms. Onton has a great deal of experience in laboratories as a chemist for Enzyme Systems Products from 1992 to 1993, laboratory assistant for the University of San Diego and laboratory manager for TheraCour Pharma, Inc. Since 2006, she has been a senior scientist for NanoViricides, Inc. and AllExcel, Inc. Ms. Onton’s achievements include being a co-inventor on the United States patent for solubilization and targeted delivery of drugs with amphiphilic polymers, as well as on a pending patent for self-assembling polymeric nanomaterials as anti-cancer agents. She received grants from the National Institutes of Health in 1996 and 1997, and was a national and world medalist in U.S. Masters and senior Olympic swimming. She remains active in her field through her affiliations and memberships in the National Association for Female Executives, the American Association of University Women, the American Chemical Society, the Association for Women in Science and the National Association of Professional Women.
